US Coast Guard makes port call in Massawa
The American Naval ship, US Coast Guard made port call in the port city of Massawa from the 31st to the 2nd of April 2005.

The Ship was accorded a warm welcome by the Eritrean Minster of Defense General Sebhat Efrem, Commander of the Eritrean Naval Force Major General Hummed Karikare, Commander of the 4th Zonal operation Command Major General Haile Samuel, the American ambassador to Eritrea Mr. Scot H. Dilsi and other senior military officers.

Following briefings by the ship's captain Mr. Magoo Bret about the vessel and its activities in the Red Sea waters, commander of the joint Task force in the horn of Africa Maj. General Samuel Hiland and General Sibhat Efrem conducted brief discussions on the strengthening of bilateral relations of the two countries and their naval and military commands and Eritrean-American role in the global fight against terrorism.

During the brief meetings between the two commands the Eritrean Minister of Defense disclosed Eritrea's readiness to cooperate with the United States in promoting peace and security in the Red Sea region and that it will continue to push forth its already established relations between the two countries.

Captain of the ship, Mr. Magoo Bret on his part after noting that Eritrea is playing a commendable role in the fight against terrorism, disclosed Eritrea's supremacy in peace and tranquility, and further wished Eritrea and its people peace and prosperity.

Crew members of US Coast Guard also visited and toured the major development activities underway in Massawa and its environs.

The visit marks the American Naval force's third trip to Eritrea.
